Landlord Benefits & Payment Services
For landlords, managing agents and providers
Housing payments, disputed decisions and arrears need a clear plan.
Practical help with Housing Benefit decisions, Universal Credit managed payments, rent arrears deductions and appeal preparation — with a specific focus on rented and supported accommodation.
Specialist benefit-payment support for property operators
Rent problems are not always simply collection problems. A claim may be missing evidence, a decision may be challenged, or payment arrangements may need reviewing. SAS offers case-based support to help landlords, managing agents and accommodation providers understand the process and prepare an appropriate response.
We distinguish Housing Benefit from the Universal Credit Housing Element, because the correct benefit depends on the tenancy and accommodation arrangements. We do not guarantee DWP or council approval.
WHERE SAS CAN HELP
Choose the right service for your issue
UC managed payments to landlords
Review of eligibility, supporting evidence and an application for direct housing-cost payments where the rules allow.
UC rent arrears deductions
Separate assistance with requests to deduct eligible rent arrears from Universal Credit. Deductions are not the same as payments of ongoing housing costs.
Housing Benefit entitlement disputes
Review of award, refusal, evidence and review/appeal route, including complex supported-accommodation claims where appropriate.
Housing Benefit overpayment appeals
Examination of recoverability, calculation, official-error arguments and whether recovery can lawfully be sought from a landlord or agent.
UC Housing Element queries
Help understanding housing cost verification, amounts included in a UC award and disputed housing-cost decisions.
Tribunal case preparation
Assessment of the decision, procedural chronology, evidence index and written submissions where the matter is within our agreed scope.
Supported accommodation requires the right benefit route
In many specified supported-accommodation schemes, and in council-arranged temporary accommodation for homeless households, eligible housing costs are covered by Housing Benefit rather than the UC Housing Element. Check the accommodation category before requesting a UC managed payment.
How it works
Clear scope, evidence-led preparation and no promise of a particular decision.
Choose the issue
Tell us whether the problem is a claim, ongoing payments, arrears, an overpayment or an appeal.
Check the route
We establish whether Housing Benefit or UC applies and what procedural steps may be relevant.
Evidence review
We identify the information needed. Please do not send tenant-sensitive data through the initial form.
Quoted assistance
You receive a defined service scope and quotation before any paid work starts.
Common questions
Can a landlord request UC direct payments?
Yes, where the applicable alternative payment arrangement conditions may be met. DWP considers the evidence and the tenant may object.
Are rent arrears deductions the same as a managed payment?
No. A managed payment directs ongoing eligible UC housing costs to the landlord; an arrears deduction addresses a qualifying existing debt. Each is separately considered.
Can a landlord appeal a Housing Benefit overpayment?
A landlord or agent from whom the council says an overpayment is legally recoverable may have appeal rights. The decision notice and role of each party matter.
Can SAS act for both landlord and tenant?
We assess potential conflicts before agreeing work. We cannot advise opposing parties on the same disputed matter.
